selecting hazelnut (corylus avellana l.) rootstocks for different climatic conditions of iran
Authors
abstract
hazelnut is grown in limited areas of iran with high rainfall and high relative humidity. new cultivars and rootstocks that are tolerant of drought and low humidity are needed to expand hazelnut cultivation. to this end, seeds of 14 local corylus avellana l. genotypes (a1, a2, gerche, gerde eshkevarat, gerde shok, mahalli karaj, nakhon rood, navan1, navan7, navan9, navan10, pashmineh, shirvani and sivri) with relative tolerance to environmental stresses were collected in different areas and sown with seedlings of controls negret and daviana. seed germination, growth characteristics, graft success and chlorophylls of all rootstocks were evaluated. based on the results, first-year seedlings of six genotypes with high germination and growth vigor were selected and transplanted for field evaluation. results of the first year showed that seeds of greche had the highest (69%) germination, and that genotypes nakhon rood and sivri had the longest stems (18.22 and 12.44 cm, respectively), while pashmineh and nakhon rood seedlings had the thickestshoot diameter (2.45 and 2.42 mm, respectively). in the second year, mahalli karaj and nakhon rood seedlings showed the greatest shoot length and diameter. the highest a and b chlorophyll levels were detected in nakhon rood seedlings (3.44 and 1.39 mg/per gram of leaf fresh weight, respectively). grafts on shirvani and sivri rootstocks were the most successful, with 42.18 and 41.07%, respectively. graft success was not different among different scions.

The Aspergillus flavus Susceptibility of Hazelnut Varieties (Corylus avellana L.) in Laboratory Conditions
Iran has suitable conditions for cultivating high-quality varieties of hazelnuts (Corylus avellana L.). Most of hazelnut orchards in Iran have been established by planting native genotypes. Aspergillus flavus Link. (AF) is a filamentous fungus affecting hazelnut kernels in orchards and during storage conditions. The most widely explored strategy for reducing aflatoxin contamin...

Hazelnut (Corylus avellna L.) is one of the important nut crops in world. The harvesting ofhazelnuts is done either by hand or by manual or mechanical raking of fallen nuts in Iran.Common hazel is widely cultivated for its nuts, including in commercial orchards in Europe,Turkey, and Iran. There are some genotypes of hazelnut in Iran that their growing areas arelimited to Gillan, Aredbil, Mazand...
full textHigh Quality RNA Isolation from Leaf, Shell, Root Tissues and Callus of Hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.)
Extraction of high quality RNA is a critical step in molecular genetics studies. Hazelnut is one of the most important nuts plants in the world. The presence of the taxol and other taxanes in hazelnut plant necessitates explaining their biosynthesis pathway and identifying the candidate genes. Therefore, an easy and practical method is necessary for RNA extraction from hazelnuts. Hazelnut has h...
full textIdentification of microRNA elements from genomic data of European hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) and its close relatives
Plant microRNAs (miRNAs) are small and non-coding endogenous RNAs which have numerous regulatory roles in cells. These critical players regulate pathways either by inducing translational repression or messenger RNA (mRNA) decay. Newly developed bioinformatics tools and computational methods have been increased to identify miRNAs with their targets inside the genome. In this study, we predicted ...

Hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) is a popular tree nut worldwide, mainly distributed along the coasts of the Black Sea region of Turkey, southern Europe (Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France), and in some areas of the US (Oregon and Washington). Turkey is the world’s largest producer of hazelnuts, contributing ~74% to the total global production. In this study, compositional characteristics of eigh...
